About the Jerry Sanders Design Competition.
Now in its 23rd year, the Jerry Sanders Creative Design Competition is a college design contest hosted annualy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. JSDC is a part of Engineering Open House (EOH), a science and engineering expo that inspires over 20,000 people every year. Sponsored by Advanced Micro Devices, JSDC encourages teams from across the Midwest and beyond to come and compete at a two day test of engineering skill and teamwork.
The Game:
This year's game will again emphasize finesse and strategy. Teams will move weighted, air-filled balloons and helium-filled balloons tied to a string to play a large game of tic-tac-toe. Instead of Xs and Os, teams will play with colored balloons. Each team will be assigned a color of balloon to score with. To unlock their balloons, teams will have to perform varioius actions. Once released onto the field, teams can score by placing an air-filled balloon into a box or floating a helium-filled balloon into a net located above each goal box. Once scored in, a space will remain under the team's control until another team takes control by scoring in that space.
Points will be awarded for scoring a balloon in a box or net. Additional points will be awarded if a team gains control over an entire line in the tic-tac-toe grid. Points will be taken away for popping a balloon, so teams will have to be careful when handling balloons.
